Ms. Simoes wins the prestigious Derozio Award for 2016

Ms. J. Simoes, Principal of Wisdom World School, has been selected as one of the recipients of the ‘Derozio Award for Education and Human Enrichment’. The award is being presented to her by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE). She will receive a gold medal, a citation, a silver plaque and one lakh rupees.

Miss Simoes has a wide teaching experience, from teaching pre-nursery students to students in class 12. She has taught a variety of subjects ranging from history and geography in middle school, English from classes 5-10 for the ICSE level, commerce, economics, Commercial Applications for classes 9 & 11 (ICSE) and Organisation of Commerce, Business Studies and Secretarial Practice for classes 11 & 12.

Miss Simoes also has a wide administrative experience. She was the vice principal of St. Mary’s School, Pune (Boys’ Section) from 1993-2006. Later, she was the Principal of St. Mary’s School and St. Mary’s Junior College.
Currently, she heads Wisdom World School, Pune. She is also the recipient of the National Award for Teachers.
The Derozio Award
The Derozio Award for Education and Human Enrichment, instituted by CISCE, is given to Principals and teachers. It is awarded to honour and motivate people to serve the nation in a manner that clearly defines leadership in an identified sphere.
The objective of the award is to –

  • Promote a sense of achievement, recognition and support for a cause.
  • Recognise the work of people for the greater good of humanity.
  • Establish a role for people to contribute to the nation.
  • Enable professionals to reach out.
  • Generate concern for social, physical or cultural ecology of the nation.
  • Enhance global goodwill and understanding.
